The Conservative Friends of Bangladesh hosted its fringe reception on Tuesday 4th October 2016 at party conference in Birmingham. 80 guests attended including H.E. Mr Khondkher M Talha, Acting Bangladesh High Commissioner, Conservative MEP Amjad Bashir and Robert Buckland MP.
The reception was opened by Chairman Mehfuz Ahmed, Paul Scully MP and Colin Broom MP. Guests had the opportunity to share the British Bangladeshi contributions in the business sector, the economy and political life.
Conservative Party Chairman, Patrick McLoughlin commented, “I am delighted to wish Conservative Friends of Bangladesh a happy 10th anniversary. You have achieved so much over the past decade. It has been exciting to see your growth in membership and national reach. Since CFoB’s inception in 2006 with only 5 members, you have grown rapidly to over 400 supporters, with over 27 regional branches. CFoB has grown into an immensely influential and important group that has helped our Party develop strong relationships with the British-Bangladeshi community. On behalf of the Party, thank you contributing your time and your talent to our efforts. Your support to candidates and campaigns has been incredibly significant and we are deeply grateful. With your chairman Mehfuz Ahmed leading an extremely able team, I know that CFoB will continue to achieve great things and look forward to the next 10 years.”
Colin Broom MP, praised the Bangladeshi catering industry, and the continuous successful campaigns CFoB have contributed. Paul Scully MP highlighted, the historical legacy and relationships between Bangladesh and UK.
Mehfuz Ahmed commented, “we have been tirelessly promoting, our achievements under the stewardship of Anne Main MP, who has relentlessly been working with immense compassion to empower our community, pushing it into the mainstream sphere of British politics.”
Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP closed the reception with praise to core members.
